Hawaiian Bodywork training

Learn the art of Hawaiian Bodywork and become a certified Lomi Lomi Practitioner

Why we’re here…

In a world often filled with physical and emotional disharmony and disease, rediscovering ancient wisdom can be a powerful catalyst to guide us in finding balance with ourselves and with nature.

Hawaiian bodywork, or Lomi Lomi, is rooted in profound wisdom that's been passed down for centuries. Through these teachings, we learn to feel, act, heal, and touch as our true and unique selves, present and harmonious with our environment.

Perhaps that's also why you're here...

what is lomi lomi?

Hawaiian Bodywork, or Lomi Lomi, is an ancient indigenous healing practice, originating from the Kahuna shamans, who are revered as guides and guardians of Hawaiian society. One significant role they mastered was using bodywork to restore balance and harmony to individuals.

Today, Lomi Lomi continues to be regarded as a sacred temple massage, and a rite of passage for the receiver. It serves as a supportive guide through transitions in life, offering profound understanding, healing and connection.

The Lomi Lomi massage is a journey into one's own inner landscape, a dance of healing and aliveness. On the physical level, it is a full-body oil massage, characterized by fluid motions that traverse the back and front of the body. Although it is far beyond a mere massage. Lomi Lomi is a profound healing experience, with the power to release old blockages and traumas, allowing individuals to rediscover themselves, as a spirit within a human-body and empowering their body's innate wisdom.

  • To change one’s mind is to change one’s pattern. To change one’s pattern is to change one’s life.

Becoming a practitioner of Hawaiian Bodywork transcends mere technique—it's a path of personal transformation. It's about delving deep into oneself, confronting the limitations and patterns that have left us stuck and disconnected. In this training we will learn to listen deeply, strengthening our connection to our breath and our core, located just below our navel, the seat of “Mana”, our raw and pure life force.

Here's where your journey begins:

Discover the Essence: We’ll explore how air guides our breath and ignites our inner fire, while water brings harmony and earth grounds us. Our essence is linked to the elements shaping our being. In Hawaiian Bodywork, we learn from these elements, understanding their language and healing potential.

Heal Yourself, Heal Others: Our approach is rooted in the practice of deep presence. Before extending outwards to others through touch, we align with our breath, our heart and our feet, knowing where we stand.  This practice is rooted in the principle of Ohana, where every aspect of body, mind, and spirit is considered a family member. Just as a family thrives on harmony, so too does our being. When we synchronize our movements by balancing our left and right sides, uniting our head with our heart, we can become more present in every moment, attuned to ourselves and others, creating a state of wholeness and vibrancy.

This training stands in the lineage of Kahu Abraham from Kaua'i, who adapted this ancient practice for our Western culture. Kahu Abraham's life’s work was making this wisdom accessible to Westerners. His insight led him to develop a system specifically aimed at guiding Westerners into their bodies, and away from the confines of their minds.

what you will learn

The Massage: Through hands-on demonstrations and guided practice, we’ll delve into the principles of Hawaiian Bodywork. In the spirit of community, we’ll exchange massages, offering and receiving healing touch, nurturing connection and trust, and sharing knowledge as we come together on our journey of growth and transformation.

Movement Meditation: A central pillar of this bodywork is a meditation in movement called the “Flight of the Navigator”. Inspired by the gracefulness of nature and the fluidity of the Hawaiian landscape, this meditative practice invites participants to harness movement as a pathway to their core. This practice, transmitted by Kahu Abraham Kaua'i, is tailored especially for Westerners. He refers to it as Ke Ala Hoku, “the gateway to the stars”. It is a simple yet profound dance around one's own center, weaving together past, present, and future, ultimately guiding us to the here and now.

Embodied Exploration: Guided by curiosity and intuition we’ll journey into sensation and perception. Through mindfulness practices and somatic awareness techniques, we deepen our connection to ourselves and the world around us, expanding our understanding of the body's subtleties and intricacies.

We’ll engage in deep stretching exercises to intimately understand our physicality, celebrating the joy of embodiment and self-expression. Guided by music, we surrender to the rhythms of the earth, allowing our bodies to move freely and authentically, dancing with the flow of life.

Rituals and Chants: Drawing upon the rich spiritual traditions of Hawaii, we’ll learn rituals and chants that honor the elements, the ancestors, and the divine essence within all things. These sacred practices, including energetic cleansing with salt water, chants to raise specific vibrations, serve as a gateway to deeper connection and alignment with the natural world. Through the transmission of energy and intention, we are invited to cultivate reverence and gratitude for the blessings that surround us.

Awa Ceremony: The Awa ceremony is a sacred ritual of communion and connection. Through the sharing of Awa, a traditional Hawaiian beverage made from the roots of the Kava plant. The effect of this plant is similar to the massage, relaxing, deeply rooting, and opening the heart and spirit.

As we come together, in the spirit of community and reverence, songs and chanting will be a significant part of the evening, while we weave a deeper thread to the spirit of Hawai´i and the sanctity of the present moment.

  • The massage feels very cleansing and relaxing. It has in many ways a spiritual dimension. Especially when I learned this massage myself, I understood that massaging was a kind of mixture between meditation and dance. Alicia is an incredibly warm and interesting person and has a charismatic presence
